Mohenjo-Daro Geography & Climate
Location- We are a prestigious civilization in the Indus River Valley, between the Indus and Ghaggar-Hakra River. Our land extends on a plain about 250 hectares across (0.96 square miles).
Geography- Our land is on a Pleistocene Ridge sitting on the floodplain of the Nile River. This is highly advantageous to us because it's like an island in between the two rivers when flooding occurs. Originally at a low level on the plain, our city actually has large constructions; some of our dirt mounds are up to 12 meters high or taller!
Shown below is an aerial photograph of our plain near the river.

Construction and City Layout- Our wonderful civilization is made of mostly fired bricks, shown on the bottom right. They are used to make wonderfully sturdy homes, along with some mud bricks and timber. Our city has a unique layout to it that makes it easy to navigate for citizens and visitors alike. It is arranged in a grid pattern with wide, straight streets that are easily navigable. There are also thick walls surrounding the city to deter any threats that we may face. Shown on the bottom left is an aerial view of our layout.
Climate- Our civilization experiences mostly a semi-arid climate because of our geography and location. However, one of the reasons that makes us able to thrive is that the rainfall has started to increase in this region. This increased rain started around the year 5000 BCE, about 3000 years before we started our civilization. It allows us to pursue agriculture as a way of life, contributing to our ever rising population.
